About Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is located in Central Asia and borders Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and the Caspian Sea. 



Kazakhstan is composed up of Kazakhs (63.1%) and Russians (23.7%), as well as minorities such as Uzbeks (2.8%), Ukrainians (2.1%), Uighurs (1.4%), Tatars (1.3%), Germans (1.1%) and others (4.5%).



Their state language is Kazakh, but Russian is their official language and used in everyday business.

Kazakhstan used to be apart of the Soviet Union, until it dissolved in 1991. It is currently a republic, but with an authoritarian president, Nursultan Nazarbayevhas. 

 

The country is very rich in natural resources, particularly oil, coal, and other minerals such as zinc, copper, and iron. 



Oil and oil commodities make up 59% of their export. Their economy is very dependent upon oil export, 21.7% of which goes to China. 

The majority of their media outlets are state-run. This allows the government to control the content and limit the opposition.
